Specter on Board for Climate Legislation

Grist reports that Senator Specter says that he will vote for cloture and expects to support climate legislation on the merits.  This is a shift from his position last year.  That’s one step closer to sixty votes.

  1. Shoring up his left flank? Switching parties didn’t solve all Specter’s problems. Democrats are lukewarm about him. Voters are tired of incumbents and Specter’s switch suggested to many an interest in self-preservation as much a dedication to centrist principles. A few months ago he was worried about getting through the Republican primary. Now he may be worried about getting past the Democratic one.

Otherwise, I’m sure Specter has decided that W-M and cap and trade is good policy, too.
