Yikes, Is It Pledge Week Already?

Yes, this is your biannual opportunity to invest in our work.

Like everyone else, I’m sure you find fundraising appeals annoying.  That’s why we hardly ever do them. But twice a year doesn’t seem like too much of an imposition, and this is a really important time.

This is our first “ask” since the new Administration took office. There’s an especially critical need today for policy-driven research to help keep environmental progress moving forward outside of D.C. And there’s also a need for reliable, evidence-based insight into the national situation.  Our research programs at Berkeley and UCLA are dedicated to those missions.

If you’d like to support Berkeley’s Center for Law, Energy, and the Environment, click here.  If you’d like more  information about the Center, click here.

You can find out more about UCLA’s environmental law programs here.  The law school’s Emmett Institute has a new, dedicated page here where anyone can make a donation to support its work.

Thanks for your support, and for reading Legal Planet!  We promise not to hit you up again till the end of the year.

  1. Thank you for updating this with the Emmett Institute donation information–it’s unfortunate that didn’t make it into the email.

    1. Thanks, Jesse. We just created that link a few weeks ago, and I don’t think it’s even on our website in any obvious place yet. We’ll fix that!

  2. It is very difficult to give money to people who marginalize us, especially when academics have a 50 year track record of failing to inform, educate and motivate peoples around the world to prevent:

World has three years left to stop dangerous climate change, warn experts

Trump and politicians who control Washington have proven that we must produce solutions we can implement today, to bend the emissions curve downward in time to protect and perpetuate an acceptable quality of life for our newest generations.

Why don’t we have an academic institution dedicated to saving the human race today? The power of money appears to be our most destructive force again, marginalizing even Ike’s 1961 Farewell Address warning:

“The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present – and is gravely to be regarded.”

    1. The out of control climate changes we are experiencing/causing today prove that we have made no political and social advancements that will save the human race since Solon and Socrates.

      1. Anthony,
It is a pity that you have such a dismal outlook on life when we have so many things to be thankful for. Why waste time on nonsense? You are 80 years old, focus on redeeming your soul during the short time you have left and don’t be distracted by the fleeting things of this world which will soon be gone.

Live your life for the next life and you may find some peace. We know that Academics can never bring peace to you or anyone else, so don’t waste time begging them to change the climate back to where it was before, no one knows how to do that. God could change the climate back but not Academics nor anyone else for that matter.

        May God Bless
