Major Progress on Climate Legislation

Well, I certainly didn’t expect this one:

Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) announced today that is reconsidering his long-held position that climate change represents “the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people.”  Oklahoma is currently suffering under the worst drought since the Dust Bowl, and thousands of farmers across the state have gone bankrupt.  “The evidence is simply too overwhelming to reject,” said Inhofe.  “We talk a lot about protecting our grandchildren from debt, but this is just as bad.”  Inhofe cautioned that he would fight a “big government, top-down fake solution” to the problem, but was looking forward to working with Environment and Public Works Committee Chair Barbara Boxer (D-CA) to craft a bipartisan solution.

Boxer was upbeat: “Senator Inhofe and I have always had a good working relationship despite our strong difference of opinion,” she said pointing to their work on recent transportation legislation.  “I think that this shows we can get things done together.”

Maybe I was just too snarky about the whole thing.  In any event, it’s nice to see.
