About Legal Planet
Legal Planet, a collaboration between faculty at UC Berkeley School of Law and UCLA School of Law, provides insight and analysis on energy and environmental law and policy. The blog draws upon the individual research strengths and expertise of the law schools’ legal scholars and think tanks. All analysis and opinions expressed by blog contributors are solely those of the individual authors, and do not reflect the positions or views of any institution, including the authors’ employers.
Our goal is to fill a unique space on the blogosphere, not only by bridging the worlds of law and policy, but also by translating the latest developments in a way that’s understandable to a mass audience.
We write about court decisions, regulatory actions, and state and legislation that affect climate change policy, water resource management, toxic waste disposal, renewable energy, air quality, land use, and more.
The global challenge of climate change is the driver behind our work.

Legal Planet is an independent, academic law and policy blog. Guest posts on Legal Planet are infrequent and generally reserved for outside academics whose expertise differs from that of existing contributors. Occasionally, we will consider guest posts from key government policymakers on a timely topic, or UC Berkeley and UCLA law students documenting interesting or unique education experiences, or others possessing special expertise, at the discretion of the blog’s editors. In all cases, the blog’s editors must approve proposed guest posts.
